Grocery chain parent company Ahold Delhaize — which owns Giant Food Stores, Stop & Shop, Food Lion, and Hannaford — was hit by a cyberattack on October 12 that knocked out websites, mobile apps, and online ordering systems across all its US brands. As of October 15, systems were still down. Physical stores stayed open, but delivery and online grocery order capabilities were wiped out for days across a major portion of the US East Coast. The company took systems offline proactively to contain the incident and reported no confirmed customer or employee data theft. This is a textbook example of why cyberattack response plans need to account for customer-facing revenue disruption, not just internal IT recovery. For retail and food service businesses, a multi-day outage of your e-commerce and order management systems can cost real revenue every hour. Tabletop your recovery scenarios now, while you still have time to find the gaps.
