AT&T Business reported second-quarter 2026 results showing a continued shift away from older services, Lightwave reported on July 27, 2026. Business advanced connectivity service revenue grew 1.8% year over year to $1.95 billion, while legacy business service revenue fell 16.6% to $1.04 billion. AT&T expects legacy service revenue across business and residential to decline 20% or more in 2026 and to become immaterial by the end of 2029. Its fiber network now reaches 38.6 million consumer and business locations.
AT&T is also selling AT&T Internet Air for Business, its 5G fixed wireless service for commercial locations. CEO John Stankey said fixed wireless is not the best long-term technology for fixed traffic, but it fits certain uses, such as mobile businesses with a fixed yard or office.
For businesses, the message is that legacy services are on a clear path out. If you still rely on older AT&T circuits, copper lines or legacy data services, ask your account team or advisor for a written migration timeline for each location, and plan the move on your schedule rather than the carrier's. Get pricing for fiber where it is available and fixed wireless where it is not.
When considering fixed wireless as a primary connection, ask about typical speeds at your address, data limits, static IP availability and service-level commitments. Many businesses use it as a backup alongside fiber or cable rather than as the only connection, which can be a reasonable middle ground.
