Cisco held its annual WebexOne conference in Austin last week and made a set of announcements that matter if you're evaluating or already using Webex for business communications. The headline: Cisco rebuilt Webex around the idea of people and AI agents working together in the same spaces, meetings, and calls. AI agents can now be invited into Webex conversations to pull data, generate content, and handle multi-step tasks across third-party systems — similar to how you'd bring another person into a chat thread. Cisco is integrating Anthropic's Claude as a first-party agent option, alongside an OpenAI dots integration. For facilities and IT managers: Cisco room devices running RoomOS 27 will now run Google Meet natively alongside Teams, Zoom, and Webex — a significant win for organizations running mixed video environments. Cisco also announced Cloud Intelligence for Cisco Unified Communications Manager, which brings cloud AI capabilities to organizations that don't want to fully migrate off their on-premise calling platform. Most of these features are targeting general availability in early 2027.
