Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for unified communications as a service, dated July 28, 2026, narrowed the field to nine vendors from eleven, UC Today reported on August 4. Cisco, Microsoft, RingCentral and Zoom were again named Leaders. 8x8, Dialpad and GoTo were Visionaries, Vonage and Wildix were Niche Players, and no vendor was placed as a Challenger. Google and Sangoma, both Niche Players in 2025, were dropped from the report.
The report also carries forecasts worth noting for anyone budgeting for phones. Gartner lowered its prediction that 90% of organizations would run enterprise calling through their existing cloud office or collaboration tools by 2028 to 70%. It expects traditional telephony spend to fall 40% by 2029 against 2026 levels, and AI and consumption-based UCaaS to grow from 5% of overall UCaaS spend in 2026 to 30% by 2029. Enterprises are reportedly cutting their telephony footprint by roughly 10% to 50% of their user base.
A vendor dropping out of the quadrant does not mean its product is going away. Gartner's inclusion rules include at least $110 million in yearly UCaaS recurring revenue and one million paying telephony users. Still, buyers on Google or Sangoma calling should ask their provider directly about roadmap and support commitments. Everyone else should treat the report as a starting list, not a decision.
Two practical points from the report are worth raising in any renewal. Check outage remedies in the contract: Gartner notes Cisco caps financial remedies for Webex Calling outages at 5% of the monthly service fee. And with footprints shrinking, review which users actually need a phone number before you renew seat counts, rather than renewing at last year's total.
