KLAS Research's US Acute Care EHR Market Share 2026 report, discussed by Healthcare IT Today on July 9, 2026, describes a cooling market. KLAS recorded no large health system EHR migrations in 2025. Epic's gains came mainly from small community hospitals joining existing local networks through its Community Connect program. Oracle Health satisfaction scores are declining, which KLAS attributes to communication problems about its AI roadmap, and Meditech is losing overall share while moving customers to its cloud-based Expanse platform.
KLAS analyst Paul Warburton said the market overall is in a bit of a holding pattern. Health IT leaders expect emerging AI to address problems in their current technology stack over the next 12 to 24 months, which is delaying full EHR replacements. KLAS also reported a sharp rise in six-month pilots and month-to-month vendor contracts.
For smaller hospitals, clinics and physician groups, this has two practical implications. First, joining a larger system's Epic instance through Community Connect is now a common path, so ask nearby health systems whether they offer it and what the shared costs and governance look like. Second, buyers have more leverage to start small. When evaluating AI tools for documentation, coding or revenue cycle, ask for a short pilot with clear success measures and exit terms instead of a multi-year commitment.
If you are on Oracle Health or Meditech, ask your vendor for a written roadmap and timeline for the AI and cloud features you are counting on, and compare it against your contract renewal date.
