Lumen Technologies completed the sale of its residential fiber-to-the-home business — including the Quantum Fiber brand — to AT&T for $5.75 billion in cash. The deal closed in February 2026 and covers more than 1 million fiber customers across eleven states. This is not a small footnote. It means Lumen is done trying to be a consumer company. Going forward, it is purely focused on enterprise and AI-driven networking infrastructure. At its Investor Day the same month, Lumen declared its turnaround complete and outlined plans to expand its fiber network to 58 million miles by 2031, surpass 2,000 customers on its Network-as-a-Service platform, and grow a nearly $13 billion portfolio of private connectivity contracts supporting AI companies including Anthropic. If you buy Lumen's enterprise networking services, the company you are dealing with looks very different than it did two years ago. That is either reassuring — sharper focus, less distraction — or a flag worth watching as they execute a complex transformation. Either way, this is the biggest structural change Lumen has made in years.
