The managed service provider industry is consolidating fast. The 20 MSP announced four more acquisitions in early June, bringing its total deal count to 48. Harbor IT is building a cybersecurity-focused MSP platform through acquisitions specifically targeting compliance-heavy industries like healthcare and finance. This matters to you as a business owner because when your MSP gets acquired, the dynamics of your relationship change whether you notice it or not. The technical staff who knew your environment often leave within the first year. Support processes get centralized. Pricing sometimes changes. The company that sold you the relationship no longer owns it. If your IT provider has been acquired in the last 12 months, now is a good time to review your service level agreements, confirm who your primary technical contacts are, and verify that institutional knowledge about your environment has been properly documented and transferred. MSP consolidation is not inherently bad — larger platforms often bring better tooling and deeper security expertise — but the transition period carries real risk if nobody is managing it on your behalf.
