On August 1, 2026, N-able disclosed that attackers were actively exploiting an authentication bypass in N-central, its remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform used by many MSPs. Tracked as CVE-2026-18577, the flaw affects all N-central versions before 2026.3 and could be used to take over administrative accounts, according to BleepingComputer. It is an incomplete fix for an earlier bypass, CVE-2026-18576. N-able released hotfix 2026.3.1.7. Hosted servers were already updated, but on-premises customers must install it themselves.
An RMM server has administrative reach into every device it manages. If an attacker controls an MSP's N-central server, they can potentially reach that MSP's clients as well. N-able has not said how many customers were targeted or compromised.
If an MSP manages your systems, ask them directly whether they use N-central, whether it is hosted or on-premises, and when hotfix 2026.3.1.7 was applied. N-able published indicators of compromise, including four IP addresses, a service registered as "Cloudflared" and an svchost.exe file in a user's documents folder. Ask your provider to confirm they checked for these. Companies that run N-central internally should patch and then review admin accounts and recent logins.
This is a good moment to ask any provider how their RMM console is protected: whether it is exposed to the internet, whether access requires multifactor authentication, and how quickly they apply emergency vendor fixes.
