Rightfiber, the company formerly known as Great Plains Communications and a Grain Management portfolio company, has completed its acquisition of the Nebraska business of American Broadband Holding Company, which operates as Fastwyre Broadband, Light Reading reported on October 1, 2026. Rightfiber was formed through the merger of Great Plains Communications and Ritter Communications. It serves customers in 20 states with more than 28,000 route miles of fiber and more than 300,000 fiber-to-the-home passings, and it has begun integrating Fastwyre's operations in 26 Nebraska communities, including Fremont, Bellevue, Blair, Wayne and Tekamah.
This is the kind of deal that rarely makes national headlines but directly touches local businesses. When a regional provider changes hands, customers typically move to new billing, new portals and new support processes over the following months. Former Fastwyre customers have been told they will receive ongoing updates on products, services and billing during the transition.
If your business is on a provider going through a transition like this, keep a copy of your current contract, rates and service-level terms, and confirm in writing how they carry over. Watch the first few invoices from the new owner for changes in line items, taxes or fees. Confirm the correct trouble-ticket number and escalation path before you need it, and verify that static IP addresses, DNS settings and any managed router configurations will not change without notice.
Regional fiber consolidation has been steady throughout 2026, so this checklist is worth keeping on hand even if your own provider has not been sold yet.
