T-Mobile is raising its Regulatory Programs and Telco Recovery fee effective October 12, 2026, Android Authority reported on September 28. The fee goes up $1 per month per voice line, to $5.49, and $0.50 per month per mobile internet line, to $2.60. T-Mobile notified customers by email. The report says the increase applies even to customers with a five-year price lock, because the fee is charged on top of the core plan price. It is the second increase to this fee in 2026.
Line fees are easy to overlook on a single phone but add up across a fleet. On 50 voice lines, a $1 increase is $600 a year before tax. The broader lesson is about what a price lock covers. Carrier price guarantees typically apply to the base plan rate, not to surcharges and recovery fees that can change during the term. The article does not say whether business accounts are affected, so do not assume they are or are not.
Pull your most recent wireless invoice and list every recurring surcharge by line. Ask your carrier rep or advisor whether this change applies to your account, and how other fees on your bill have moved over the past year. When negotiating a new agreement with any carrier, ask whether fees can be capped, frozen or included in the plan price, and get the answer in writing.
This is also a good time to remove unused lines and data-only devices that are still being billed, since every line carries these fees.
