TrendForce forecast on July 9, 2026 that server DRAM contract prices will rise 13% to 18% quarter over quarter in the third quarter of 2026, and continue rising every quarter from the second half of 2026 through the second half of 2027, although at a slowing pace. The firm said the market remains undersupplied, and that total RDIMM bit supply is expected to grow only 15% to 20% in 2027. Large US cloud providers hold multi-year agreements that cap some of their prices, so the biggest increases fall on buyers without those agreements.
That describes nearly every small and mid-size business buying servers. Memory is a large share of the cost of a modern server, and rising DRAM prices flow directly into server quotes. TrendForce also noted that some buyers have moved from 96 GB and 128 GB modules down to 32 GB and 64 GB modules to control costs, and that a server DRAM shortage is already anticipated for 2027.
If you have a server refresh planned for the next 12 months, get quotes now and ask how long they are valid, since prices are moving quarter to quarter. Size memory carefully to actual workloads rather than defaulting to the largest configuration. Ask your reseller about lead times and whether a configuration with smaller modules is available sooner. And compare the total cost of buying hardware against cloud or hosted alternatives for workloads that do not need to sit in your server room.
