On July 29, 2026, at VeeamON Sydney, Veeam released Veeam Data Platform v13.1 and launched Veeam Data Cloud Vault Archive. Version 13.1 adds support for six more hypervisors, including Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, XCP-ng, Citrix XenServer and Sangfor aSV, bringing its total to 14. It also adds Active Directory Forest Recovery, malware scanning for NAS and protection for Epic EHR and Oracle. The new Vault Archive is an immutable, encrypted, logically air-gapped cloud tier for long-term backup retention, which Veeam positions as a managed alternative to tape. Pricing was not disclosed.
The hypervisor support matters for businesses considering a move away from VMware, because backup compatibility is often a blocker. The archive tier addresses the cost of keeping years of backups for compliance. Veeam's own research claims backup repositories were targeted in 96% of ransomware attacks, which is why immutable, isolated copies matter.
If you use Veeam directly or through an MSP, ask whether you are on version 13 or later and when an upgrade to 13.1 is planned. If you are evaluating a new hypervisor, confirm your backup tool supports it before committing. For long-term retention, ask for a cost comparison between your current storage and an archive tier, and confirm restore times, since archived data is typically slower to recover.
Veeam's report also found that 90% of organizations are confident they can recover from a cyber incident, yet fewer than one in three ransomware victims recovered all their data. Testing is what closes that gap.
