Microsoft and Zoom have announced plans for a new Cross-Platform Meeting Connect feature that will allow Teams Rooms hardware to join Zoom meetings — and Zoom Rooms hardware to join Teams meetings — with significantly improved capability compared to what the older Direct Guest Join feature provided.
The planned improvements include dual-display support, up to 1080p video, HDMI content sharing from a laptop in the room, a live participant roster on the room display, read-only meeting chat, and synced mute and end-call controls. Microsoft published the announcement on October 20, 2026, and noted that 1080p video for Teams meetings on Zoom Rooms has already reached general availability. The remaining features are described as planned, with no shipping date given by Microsoft. Zoom, at its Zoomtopia conference, listed cross-platform Teams connectivity for Zoom Rooms as expected in the first half of 2027.
Organizations running a mixed estate — Teams Rooms in some spaces and Zoom Rooms in others, or rooms that routinely receive meeting invites from whichever platform a guest or partner uses — will want to track the rollout. Today, obtaining full-quality cross-platform video with HDMI sharing and dual displays generally requires a paid third-party Cloud Video Interop service from a partner such as Pexip, along with a Teams Rooms Pro license. When Cross-Platform Meeting Connect ships, some of those capabilities may be available without a separate interop service. IT and facilities teams may want to review current interop contracts and licensing ahead of the first half of 2027 to understand what may change.
