On its first-quarter 2026 earnings call, Uniti Group CEO Ken Gunderman said there is no hard and fast timeline for selling its Kinetic consumer fiber business, but that the company is open to M&A in the near term if it creates shareholder value, Fierce Network reported on May 13, 2026. Reports in April said T-Mobile and possibly others were looking at Kinetic. Uniti, which merged with Windstream in August 2025, has already sold its tower business and its Northeast and Midwest fiber operations.
Uniti reports three segments: Kinetic consumer broadband, Fiber Infrastructure for wholesale and transport, and Uniti Solutions for managed services and enterprise technology. Kinetic added 88,000 fiber homes passed in the quarter and targets at least 2.3 million by year-end, while wholesale fiber revenue grew 13%, partly on AI demand. A sale of Kinetic would leave Uniti more focused on wholesale and enterprise fiber.
Many small businesses in the Southeast and Midwest, including parts of Georgia, buy Kinetic or Windstream-branded business services. If you are one of them, check which Uniti entity actually holds your contract, when it renews and whether it has an assignment clause. Ask your account team what a Kinetic sale would mean for business accounts on the consumer network. If you are on older copper-based service in a Kinetic area, ask whether fiber is now available at your address, since the company is expanding coverage quickly.
