Ideal Customer

  • Equinix's direct sales force segments by account size and industry vertical, with Global 2000 enterprises targeted for complex, multi-region deployments.
  • Enterprise clients represent nearly 40% of new bookings, with financial services firms, healthcare systems, global manufacturers, and omnichannel retailers among the fastest-growing sub-segments.

Key Differentiators

  • Equinix's primary differentiators are its unmatched global scale (280 data centers in 77 metros across 36 countries), ecosystem density (10,500+ customers and 507,000+ interconnections on a single platform), and carrier-neutral positioning that enables direct, private access to 2,100+ network service providers and nearly 40% of all private on-ramps to the world's top cloud providers.
  • The company competes on ecosystem value and interconnection richness rather than lowest-cost rack space, making it extremely sticky — customers co-locate not just for space and power but for proximity to the partners, clouds, and networks they depend on.

Industries Served

  • Equinix serves a broad cross-section of industries including financial services (Nasdaq, Aon, and 1,250+ financial firms for low-latency trading and PCI DSS-compliant workloads), healthcare, manufacturing, retail, transportation, gaming, and digital media.
  • It also serves telecommunications carriers, cloud and IT service providers, content and streaming platforms, and government/federal agencies.

Service Coverage

  • Equinix operates globally across 280 data centers (including xScale joint venture facilities) spanning 77 metropolitan markets in 36 countries, with a presence across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions.
  • Key markets include major U.S. metros (New York, Silicon Valley, Dallas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta), as well as London, Frankfurt, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, São Paulo, and dozens more.

Partnerships

  • Equinix maintains deep strategic partnerships with the world's major cloud hyperscalers — AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and others — providing direct cloud on-ramps and being the largest single provider of private cloud on-ramps globally (nearly 40% of all private on-ramps to top global cloud providers).
  • Technology alliances include NVIDIA (DGX private AI deployments, Inference Exchange), Dell Technologies (2025 Global Technology Alliance of the Year), HPE, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Aviatrix, F5, Splunk, and Datadog.

Company Size & Ownership

  • Equinix was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
  • As of 2025, the company employs approximately 13,700–14,600 people globally and reported full-year 2025 revenue of approximately $9.22 billion, up from $8.75 billion in 2024, reflecting a multi-year compound annual growth rate of roughly 9–10%.

Compliance & Certifications

  • Equinix holds an extensive portfolio of compliance certifications across its global IBX data center fleet, including ISO 27001 (Information Security), ISO 22301 (Business Continuity), ISO 9001 (Quality Management), SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II, and PCI DSS globally.
  • U.S. facilities are certified to NIST 800-53/FISMA High categorization for federal government workloads and are HIPAA-compliant for healthcare data.

Equinix posts record interconnections, raises 2026 guidance and capex plans

Equinix reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.625 billion on July 29, up 16% year over year, with monthly recurring revenue up 11%. The company added a record 9,700 net interconnections, posted annualized gross bookings of $424 million, and raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $10.205 to $10.285 billion. It also raised its long-term outlook to 10% to 13% annual revenue growth through 2029, citing firm pricing, and increased its expected annual capital spending to $5 to $7 billion. Equinix said it has 52 build projects underway across 33 markets. Equinix is where many mid-size and large companies connect to clouds, carriers and partners. Record interconnection growth and firm pricing tell buyers that demand for retail colocation and cross-connects is strong, which generally means less room to negotiate. The company also announced Fabric Geo Zones, a network-level data sovereignty service, and an expanded collaboration with Cisco and NVIDIA on AI infrastructure. If you have cabinets or cross-connects at Equinix or a similar interconnection provider, review your monthly recurring charges line by line. Cross-connects are often ordered and forgotten, so disconnect any you no longer use. Check your contract's annual escalator and renewal date, and get competitive quotes from other providers in the same metro before renewal. If you are evaluating private connections to cloud providers, compare software-defined interconnection options against physical cross-connects on both cost and flexibility.
