HP PC revenue rose 18% even as unit shipments fell 16%, reflecting higher prices

HP Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 results on August 26. Revenue rose 12.5% to $15.7 billion. Personal Systems revenue grew 18% to $11.8 billion, with commercial PC revenue up 22% to $8.6 billion, while the number of units shipped fell 16%. Printing revenue fell 2% to $3.9 billion. HP raised its full-year earnings guidance. Higher revenue on fewer units means each PC is selling for more, which is what business buyers have been seeing on quotes all year. CFO Karen Parkhill said memory pricing will remain an issue, though the rate of increase is starting to slow in the current quarter. She expects input costs to keep rising into fiscal 2027, but more slowly than in 2026, and expects memory and storage to make up a growing share of a PC's bill of materials. Interim CEO Bruce Broussard pointed to improvements in memory supply and higher order fulfillment rates. For buyers, this suggests prices are not about to fall back to 2025 levels, even if increases slow. If you are planning a refresh, ask your supplier to lock pricing for the full order and to confirm delivery dates in writing. Consider whether a mix of models fits your needs better than one standard configuration, especially as HP credits part of its growth to AI PCs. HP is still searching for a permanent CEO after Enrique Lores left in February to lead PayPal.

Unpatched HP DeskJet 2800 flaw exposes Wi-Fi Direct passwords, CERT/CC warns

CERT/CC disclosed a vulnerability on July 6, 2026, in HP DeskJet 2800 series inkjet printers running firmware TBP1CN2612AR and earlier. Tracked as CVE-2026-13753, the flaw exists because the printer's embedded web server does not check authorization on its backend API. Anyone on the same network can request data that should be limited to administrators, including the Wi-Fi Direct network name and plaintext password, SNMP settings, serial numbers, and cloud registration details. CERT/CC said it was unable to coordinate with HP, and no firmware fix was available at the time of disclosure. The DeskJet 2800 is a consumer printer, but low-cost inkjets like it can end up in small offices, branch locations, and home offices that connect to company systems. A leaked Wi-Fi Direct password gives an attacker a way onto the printer's wireless connection, and the other data helps map the local network. If you have these printers, follow the CERT/CC guidance until HP releases a fix: put the printer on a separate network segment or guest network, turn off Wi-Fi Direct if you don't use it, restrict or disable SNMP, and turn off unused cloud and discovery features. For staff working from home, decide whether personal printers should be allowed on the same network as company laptops. Longer term, this is a good reason to standardize on business-class printers with a published security update process. Security researcher Nguyen Tien Dung reported the flaw.
