SK hynix announced on October 23 that it has stopped reviewing a potential IPO and pre-IPO funding round for Solidigm, its US-based NAND flash and SSD subsidiary, citing market volatility and a correction in semiconductor stocks. The company says it will continue evaluating other financing options, but has not named a site, set a budget, or given a timeline for the expansion.
Solidgm produces high-capacity enterprise SSDs (solid-state drives used in data center storage) and, along with SK hynix, holds about 21 percent of the enterprise SSD market. SK hynix said in the same statement that Solidigm's existing facilities have limited capacity against AI-driven demand and that additional US production is still needed. First-half 2026 revenue at Solidigm came in at roughly $9.1 billion, up 265 percent year-on-year, reflecting how sharply enterprise storage demand has grown.
For IT directors and procurement teams buying high-capacity data center SSDs, the shelved IPO does not change the short-term product lineup, but it does signal that capacity expansion at one of the sector's major suppliers remains unresolved. Organizations planning large storage deployments — particularly those building AI infrastructure — may want to confirm lead times with their storage vendors and consider whether current contracts adequately protect against future supply constraints.
