Supermicro began selling a new rack-scale server on October 22 that packs 256 Nvidia Vera processors into a fully liquid-cooled enclosure. The company says the rack is designed for agentic AI — a class of AI where software agents execute multi-step tasks autonomously — as well as reinforcement learning and data processing.
The unit integrates Nvidia BlueField-4 DPUs (data processing units, which handle networking and security in silicon rather than through software) alongside Nvidia's Open Agent Safety Platform. Supermicro says the rack supports up to 22,500 concurrent agent sandboxes — isolated execution environments where AI agents run and are monitored. It uses a third-generation Nvidia MGX modular design, which means it shares a common infrastructure architecture with Supermicro's Vera Rubin NVL72 GPU rack and can be deployed alongside it or independently.
For power, buyers can choose a conventional AC feed or an 800VDC sidecar power rack that uses battery backup units in place of a traditional UPS (uninterruptible power supply), which Supermicro says can free floor space and improve power efficiency. Data center managers evaluating AI infrastructure may want to confirm whether their facility's cooling and power infrastructure can support direct liquid cooling and, if applicable, 800VDC distribution before specifying this equipment.
