Square unveiled its new flagship self-service kiosk on October 14, designed for quick-service restaurants. The device moves away from the company's earlier iPad-dependent design and features a 21.5-inch touchscreen, three directional microphones with noise filtering, and a conversational AI voice layer that understands a restaurant's menu and responds to customer questions in real time.
Customers can tap, speak, or switch between the two while ordering. The AI handles menu questions, modifications, and substitutions, and makes upsell recommendations based on popular items, time of day, and what is already in the cart. Integrated payment processing — tap, dip, and PIN — is built directly into the unit, so no separate card reader is needed.
Pricing is $1,999 for the hardware with a countertop stand, plus a $99 monthly software fee per device. The device also requires either a Square Plus subscription at $49 per location per month or a Square Premium subscription at $149 per location per month. Restaurant operators considering self-service ordering may want to review the full subscription stack before projecting total cost of ownership, particularly for multi-location deployments.
